Acidic metal finishing rinse water contains dissolved metals, some of which are toxic. In the case of electropolishing stainless steel the major components are Iron, Nickel, Copper (from fixtures ) and Chrome (III & VI). The concentration of these metals in the rinse water can be brought to levels acceptable for discharge to a municipal treatment plant by raising the pH and allowing the metals to precipitate. The clean water is discharged to sewer and the sludge is hauled away for disposal
