Maintenance of Electropolishing Baths

There are two factors which have to be controlled in most electropolishing baths:

Specific Gravity & Dissolved Metal

Specific Gravity is the measurement of the density of the electropolishing solution relative to the density of water. The measurement is made using a hydrometer and a 250 ml glass cylinder. The measurement should be made at 70º F. This will give a indication of how much water is in the bath and a reference number for determining the percentage of dissolved metal. If the specific gravity is low, water must be boiled off. In the rare instances when the gravity is high water must be slowly added. This measurement should be made daily for best results with your electropolishing bath
